Who can Apply

Traditionally, students came to study higher education straight from school after studying ‘A’ Levels and studied full time. However there are now more students who combine study with work or childcare, and are less likely to have ‘A’ Levels. There are also students who come from an Access course or a Diploma, and many others arrive after a long break from studying of any kind.

This means we recognise the variety of students which need to be catered for and at NUC you’re likely to meet someone with a similar educational and life history to your own. We recognise that people learn in different ways, at different speeds, and make sure that no one is left behind. So it really doesn’t matter if you don’t have great ‘A’ Level grades, what’s much more important is a desire to learn and a commitment to work hard.

If you are uncertain whether higher education is for you, contact us and we can advise whether you are ready for degree level study. It’s natural that many potential students, especially those who have been out of education for some time, worry about whether they will be able to cope. We have fantastic support networks for students, and will be able to tell you if you are ready to start straight away or whether you would benefit from a pre-degree course (Newham College has a number of excellent Access programmes designed to prepare you for Higher Education – if you pass one of these and meet the entry requirements for the degree you are applying to we guarantee you a place on the course).

Availability of Places: You have probably read about the current shortage of higher education places available and the increase in fees. Because our funding is not limited by the same restraints as most providers, we can offer a large number of places on all our courses. You are still advised to apply early to avoid possible disappointment. Because we are committed to providing educational opportunities we have kept our fees down, without sacrificing the quality of the education we provide.
